Sweet Friends

Sweet Friends
Good friends are the sweets in life. There is so much we are forced to swallow; bullies, drama, hormones...A bad friend isn’t always easy to detect; they may be dipped in a glamorous coating, or sweet one moment and sour the next. Either way, they can leave us with a foul aftertaste. We spit and spew and scrape our tongues to rid them of any residue, but only the relief of a good friend can thoroughly wash out the pain. A good friend is the golden ticket in a Wonka bar, but can you really only have one? So you have a variety; the Sugar Daddies that get stuck in your teeth and challenge you, the good ‘ole, faithful chocolates, and the Krackle Bars that give you that unexpected crunch in your day.
Sugar Daddies. What’s life without a challenge? Never can there be accomplishment if there is never any challenge to accomplish. Anyone can eat life whole, but how much more exciting it is to eat it nibble by nibble! Sugar Daddies know all your pet peeves and purposefully wedge themselves nice and cozy in there. You pick at them with your fingernails, maybe even pull out the floss, and if they’re really stubborn, you might even have to use the fork. And you can curse and pout but at the end you’re a better person because you are better prepared for the next time something arises. Sugar Daddies build off each other; never is anything “okay”, but always “what next?”. Where would Willy Wonka be if he decided his candy was simply, “good enough”? After the caramel softens, you can get creative and twist it, bend it, reshape it. Get creative, get different, get fun! And when you finally get to the stick you can sigh a happy sigh, something only a Sugar Daddy, not chocolate, can do.
Good ‘ole chocolates. The hillbillies; the ones not decked out in flashy colors or with snazzy flavors, but still leave you smiling and content. Never do you have to worry about when was the last time you talked because your conversation will leave off right where it ended. They are the ones you know will always be there no matter where or when in the world you are. Laid-back and go with the flow, they are always around to sweeten up any situation. They know your weaknesses, and therefore exactly where to poke to crack a smile; the glass of milk is always half-full. The chocolates slide easily down your throat after a sharp peppermint stick, and are always folded in wise wrappers. Words spill out of their mouths like a slippery Jolly Rancher, and their hugs warm you like hot cocoa trickling down your throat. They are there to rejoice and there to relieve, and some even have that extra crunch.
Krackle Bars. You’re going about your day and all of a sudden you are jolted with a “CRUNCH!” Not expected, the Krackle Bars always know how to throw in a little pizzazz to your day. Without crunches, your day would be humdrum and typical; it would be like having Ring-Dings for snack every day. Soon you tire of it and begin not to care, and on a larger scale, when you begin not to care about life, you lose track of yourself and your purpose, and become a lump. Krackle Bars can be separated into several categories: the clowns, the drama queens/kings, the actors, the daredevils, and whatever else. Therefore, the crunches can be a joke, an exciting story, or something shocking like climbing that huge tree in the park.  They are assets to a good day; they keep you on your toes waiting for what comes next. Perhaps they get you up for school in the morning or lure you to the end of that finish line, but no matter what they are always that red wrapper in the bowl.
Good friends are the sweets in life. They are the sugar that helps the medicine go down, and each have their own contribution; their own offering to bring to the table. You have the Sugar Daddies that challenge you, the reliable, good ‘ole chocolates, and the unpredictable Krackle Bars. And when you blend them all together, you get the best of all worlds.
